Between 2019 and 2020, the logistics operator Dinet is investing S/. 16 million to grow on several fronts. These include business in the provinces, starting with a warehouse logistics hub that will open in December in Arequipa.
Its general manager, Luis Miguel Maldonado, indicated that this infrastructure will begin with construction and will then focus on retail, consumer goods, goods, and mining.
"And in 2020, we will continue to expand our operations in Piura, Trujillo, and Chiclayo; we believe that Piura will be the priority; we are evaluating the precise timing and scale to launch each operation," he told Gestión.
Thus, in two years, the Sandoval Group company plans to add up to 20,000 square meters of warehouses in the interior of the country. The aforementioned budget also includes the expansion of current logistics centers in Callao, Huachipa, and Villa El Salvador, the implementation of visibility and traceability tools, a technological solution for underground mining, and e-commerce.
Redistribution Points
Asked about Dinet's plans for e-commerce logistics, Maldonado explained that they are defining the product and service portfolio, the physical distribution network, and the movement of merchandise to reach the end consumer.
"We are looking at transportation by truck, small truck, motorcycle, bicycle, scooter, and foot. It's a combination of business verticals where we can be present directly or integrate specialized operators," he noted.
Regarding warehouses, the executive acknowledged that e-commerce demands unitary and frequent shipments throughout the day, which changes the configuration of the current infrastructure and creates the need for redistribution points.
"I can use some that are already operating, but we will have to create smaller points in the city. We need to define two or three that we think Lima will need and then design the pickup network. Some people want home delivery, but others seek to pick up their orders in the store or at intermediate points," he noted.
ANOTHER YES, I SAY
Projection. By the end of 2019, Dinet projects growth of between 6% and 8% compared to 2018, considering business in the retail, consumer goods, and goods sectors, which have been growing by 3% to 5%. Meanwhile, its underground mining services are also growing, said Luis Maldonado, after noting that the logistics sector is showing positive performance even with the political climate, which is not expected to affect consumption.
