The meeting of this working group, created by Decision 797 in October 2014, will be held in May.
Its objectives include optimizing the control and monitoring of the import, export, transportation, processing, marketing, and any other type of transaction involving minerals and their products derived from illegal mining, as well as machinery, equipment, inputs, and hydrocarbons that may be used in this illegal activity.
It also seeks to develop cooperative actions that contribute to mining formalization, foster social and environmental responsibility, and promote the use of efficient methods and technologies for the rational use of natural resources and environmental sustainability.
Representatives from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Interior, Defense, Mines, and Environment, as well as delegates from the Public Prosecutor's Office, the Police, and other authorities from the four Andean countries, will be invited to the Committee's Fifth Meeting.
According to the provisional agenda for the meeting, Colombia will assume the Pro Tempore Presidency of the Committee, and the scope of the CAN reengineering process will be presented, as well as reports from the General Secretariat.
